From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a sexy, STANDALONE second-chance romance.
They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?
So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.
At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.
Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.
I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.
They didn’t know about our past.
He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.
As my friend Lorelai so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.
I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.
Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.
And soon I might be breaking all the rules.
Author’s note – Told in alternating points of view, Mack Daddy is a full-length standalone novel.
Dads aren’t really my thing. I mean, I loved my own and all but that’s sort of where it ends for me. I try and avoid drama as far as possible. Unless it’s something about Swifty or the Kardashians cause I will click on that shit every single time. I don’t want kids. I’m not even sure I like them. I know, the horror. But I will take all of the above ten times over if it comes with a guy like Mack Daddy.
This book was dripping in angst from pretty much the first couple of paragraphs. Penelope Ward set up a brilliant start to a second chance love story with so many twists and characters it could have been a mini-series. Even so, it was all layered and laid out perfectly without once ever feeling like too many things were happening all at once. The little touches she weaved into this book were quirky and creative and I loved that about this book.
Ward has this ability to create an air of playfulness, innocence and humour into her stories even while dealing with some heavy issues, and in no other book of hers was this more apparent than in this one. Amongst all the happenings, was Frankie. A dear, precious hot mess of a person who was incredibly hard not to laugh. The situations she got herself into made for some belly laughs and I found myself cringing more than once.
The relationship between Mack and Frankie was a slow burn which I absolutely adored. Mack was balls out with his heart on his sleeve from the start and his inner monologue and thoughts while dealing with Frankie had my toes curling over. The sexual tension was electric. And Mack’s dirty mouth has placed him firmly on my list of favorite bbfs. If you’re looking for a friends to lovers / second chance romance with unique characters and more angst than you can handle – this one comes highly recommended.
